Interview: Akinah Rahmaan Approaches Dance Fitness From An Artist Point of View

Akinah Rahmaan talks transforming her love for music into a thriving fitness brand.

A quote from Chris Brown applies to people on their way to both the dentist and the gym. “I don’t want to go there.”

The push to live a healthier and more active lifestyle has become more than just something worth an Instagram selfie. We are going green, organic – if we can afford it – and training for marathons.

But the gym isn’t for everyone.

Dance fitness, such as Soca aerobics and Zumba, has grown in popularity sprouting new themes for capable instructors to blend their love for their favorite tunes while keeping their clients fit and healthy.

Approaching dance fitness from a music standpoint, Akinah Rahmaan offers a little bit of ratchet, a lot of sweat and a workout that helps you burn calories without even realizing it.

“People really want to feel the sweat and burn calories without feeling like it,” explained Rahmaan. “In the class, you’re just having a good time you don’t really realize that you’re working.”
