Women and their bodies are a sensitive topic. Humans have this amazing ability to literally come in all shapes and sizes, unfortunately, all shapes are not equally celebrated.
Curvy girl brand Lane Bryant uses its platform to continuously celebrate the woman who adorns a size above two in beautiful fashion. Often, plus size women are left out of the conversations utilizing the word sexy but no matter the shape it is confidence that makes a woman, not her dress size.
In an effort to celebrate women in their most natural states, breast feeding, in lingerie, showing a bit of skin, the fashion brand has put out a powerful black-and-white commercial titled This Body but it has not yet graced our Television screens because networks have banned it due to indecency.
“We want our target customer, the industry, and the world in general to conclude that it’s obvious, it’s self-evident, that all women are beautiful and should be seen and celebrated,” Linda Heasley, Lane Bryant‘s CEO and president, told Refinery29. “Today’s This Body campaign cites the conversation as overdue, unavoidable, and a rapidly progressing cultural (r)evolution, and allows Lane Bryant to continue to be [a] platform for shifting perception.”
Women in bras hugging each other or breastfeeding a child is hardly indecent considering the amount of nudity that takes over our screens daily. While the networks have said that they will review the commercial after another edit many see this as another strike against curvy women unapologetically loving their bodies.
