African American women are the worlds leading consumers; our dollar is so powerful and is the reason many businesses stay afloat. Unfortunately, while our dollar is highly coveted, very few African American women own stakes in these billion dollar industries.
Changing the tide in the multi-million dollar beauty store industry – dominated by those of Asian heritage – are sisters Kayla, 19, and Keona Davis, 21, who opened their own beauty supply store in Moreno, California. KD Haircare Supply has sisters covered, with products including the essentials for naturals and those with relaxed hair including edge control, Kankelon hair, and more.
The sisters don’t stop at their brick-and-mortar shop, their website also features tutorial videos with various styling tips and product reviews. The sisters also aim to be a funnel of support for other black owned businesses, including carrying products in their stores by other young entrepreneurs like 15-year-old Madison Poole’s Princess M nail polish line.
