She’s The Boss: Kristin Scott, An Entrepreneurial Accident

Kristin Scott laid in her bed and came to the conclusion that the days at her job were numbered. She was no longer interested in doing the dance of furthering a company she wasn’t passionate about.

For whatever reason, the thought to make candles – something she knew nothing about and had minimal interest in – came to mind and with that thought birthed her business, Gifts from a Virgo. Sharing the same birthday as Beyoncé, Kristin decided upon the name to make it personal to her without using her name.

“It’s a gift from Kristin and I’m a Virgo so instead of saying “Gifts from Kristin” I wanted it to be a gift from me, who is a Virgo,” she explained while traveling back home on the phone.

After a period of trial-and-error, quitting three times, and getting the formula right, Kristin’s hand poured, soy candles double as a sweet aroma throughout homes and a massage oil good for skin suffering from dryness or eczema.

Despite her success, Kristin still forgets that she is, in fact, an entrepreneur as this was never in her life’s plan. While she always knew she preferred to work for herself, the title of “boss” or “entrepreneur” never crossed her mind.

“That was never something I thought to become. Even when I started my company that wasn’t a thought in my process. That’s something that happened accidental,” she said.
